Also, he had a rich encyclopedic knowledge of the history of philosophy, religion, and Islamic mysticism. He had command over many languages including Arabic, Persian, Sanskrit & Hebrew. Jaun Elia’s eternal love for India never died and never feared the borders that separated India and Pakistan. He migrated to Pakistan in 1957, & decided to live in Karachi, but his heart never left his birthplace - Amroha. He as a communist was averse to this idea, though he accepted it as a compromise. Jaun Elia was quite young when Pakistan became an independent Muslim state. As a price for freedom from the British subjugation, India had to face partition. Jaun Elia, a popular Urdu poet, was born as Syed Sibt-e-Ashgar Naqvi (1931-2003) in Amroha, during British rule (presently the city is in Uttar Pradesh, India).
